  1. TouchStone Software Corporation announced Release 2.0 of CheckIt LAN at the
  2. computer networking show, NetWorld 92 Boston. The new release of CheckIt
  3. LAN supports networks of up to 250 users running Novell NetWare 3.x. As
  4. initially released last September, the program ran only with NetWare 2.x
  5. which limited support to 100 users.

  7. CheckIt LAN automatically keeps track of all the hardware and software
  8. installed-on a LAN. It is the first program to perform LAN hardware and
  9. software inventory, virus checking, and hardware diagnostics in a single
  10. integrated LAN application. CheckIt LAN also features network server
  11. status monitoring, automatic updating of a configuration data base, and
  12. notification of LAN support personnel when problems occur.

  14. TouchStone Software Corporation is the originator of CheckIt, the
  15. bestselling PC diagnostic program. CheckIt LAN utilizes modified
  16. technology from the original CheckIt to perform PC hardware diagnostics,
  17. but emphasis is on new modules which specifically address the LAN
  18. environment. These include a VAP (Value Added Process) for Novell NetWare
  19. 2.x users, and now in CheckIt LAN Release 2.0 an NLM (Network Loadable
  20. Module) for networks running NetWare 3.x . The NLM or VAP schedules tests
  21. to be run on the workstations, updates a LAN data base with the test
  22. results, and produces reports. A collection of specialized PC Workstation
  23. programs are used by the CheckIt LAN VAP or NLM to perform tests on the
  24. workstations on a regularly scheduled basis. The program was jointly
  25. developed by TouchStone and TriNet, Inc. Both companies are Novell
  26. Professional Developers.

  30. CheckIt LAN performs seven major information gathering, diagnostic and
  31. monitoring functions. All are integrated into one program. They are:

  34. 2. PC Hardware Diagnostic Tests, Hardware IRQ checking 
  35.    and Benchmarks 
  36. 3. Inventory of over 2,500 PC Software Programs 
  37. 4. Virus Scan of Network and Workstation Drives 
  38. 5. LAN Survey with PC "Card and Driver" Data 
  39. 6. Network Server Status Monitoring 
  40. 7. Automatic Alarm Setup and Remote Support Center

  43. All the software components work together, as an automatic system which
  44. requires little or no support from individual LAN users. In CheckIt LAN
  45. Release 2.0, updates to the functions include additional programs in the
  46. predefined library used by the Software Inventory module, and an updated
  47. virus scan program, as well as other improvements. The documentation has
  48. also been enhanced to add a Reference Manual and Installation Guide.

  52. CheckIt LAN is licensed on a "per node" basis, similar to the plan used for
  53. NetWare itself. Any size package will operate on a network, but the data
  54. base used by Checklt LAN will be limited to the number of nodes in each
  55. package. The CheckIt LAN 2.0 Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Prices are:

  63. Multiple CheckIt LAN packages may be combined to support a single network
  64. file server with up to 250 workstations. Add-On license upgrades are
  65. available directly from TouchStone for all packages except the 5-Node
  66. version. Users who have purchased the earlier version of CheckIt LAN will
  67. be entitled to a free upgrade to Release 2.0, if they purchased their copy
  68. after December 15, 1991. Earlier users may license the new release for an
  69. upgrade fee equal to the difference in price between their original copy
  70. and the new package.

  72. As part of the product's continued introduction, TouchStone is offering a
  73. free copy of CheckIt (the original PC Diagnostic program) to customers who
  74. order CheckIt LAN 2.0 from a "show special" flyer distributed in their
  75. booth at the NetWorld show. Dealers are being offered a free "not for
  76. resale" copy of CheckIt LAN with their purchase. First deliveries of
  77. CheckIt LAN 2.0 are scheduled for February 20, 1992.
